I have been diligently studying my Japanese - it's so much easier when you get a new book ;)
Anyway, I have been reading Hikaru no Go (ヒカルの碁) in English and Japanese concurrently.
When I say 'reading' what I really mean is saying aloud as my comprehension of the Japaneses text is at about... oh... 4%.
Anyway, last night was the first night during which I understood a WHOLE bubble!
This was the text: は? 何ですか進藤クン。。。
Says: "Hun? What's the matter Shindo-kun..."
Admittedly, the kanji (the complex characters) had ruby(furigana) above them... but I still read it. That's actually why Hikaru no Go is a great first read because it is geared to Japanese kids who don't know a lot of kanji yet.
